Biography of former CM of Kerala Oommen Chandy

Oommen Chandy served as chief minister of Kerala twice. From 2004 to 2006 and again from 2011 to 2016, he served in this capacity. He is an accomplished politician with more than 40 years of political experience.

Oommen Chandy was born in Puthuppally, Kottayam district, on October 21, 1943.

ArrowHe earned a law degree and advanced through the Youth Congress, finally rising to the position of state president in 1969.

ArrowOommen Chandy has represented the Puthupally constituency in the state Legislative Assembly since 1970. He was sworn in as the state's Chief Minister in the UDF Government on May 18, 2011.

ArrowHe continued on to hold office in the constituency from 1970 till his death, making him the state legislator in Kerala with the longest tenure.
