The Chinese short-video software TikTok has been completely banned in Montana, the first US state to do so.
Greg Gianforte, the governor of Montana, stated that the state is prohibiting Tiktok to prevent the Chinese Communist party from collecting the private and personal information of its residents.
Before, US government personnel were prohibited from using the app on their company phones.
A measure requesting app stores owned by the likes of Google and Apple to stop promoting Tiktok to their users was also introduced in February of this year.
Although there are several ways for users to get around regional restrictions, including by using a VPN service, it might be difficult to enforce such a ban.
Tiktok has been outlawed in about 13 nations worldwide, including China and India.
